Location: Portola Valley, California
Architect: Arcanum Architecture
This family home was inspired by the riparian landscape of Northern California. Exterior spaces such as the fire pit patio, pool, bocce ball court and entry courtyard were carefully composed, as these areas could be seamlessly blended with the interior spaces through various sliding doors and large windows. The pool side kitchen and dining room provide a perfect space for outdoor entertaining with expanded views looking out towards the Bay Area. A planting palette composed of Mediterranean trees and shrubs such as olives, oaks, citrus and rosemary conceal much of the house from the street and adjacent neighbors. The tumbled stone veneer, drifts of native grasses and wildflowers along with the natural woods all coincide to produce an aged landscape against a newly constructed home.
